Thank you for your interest in my memoir “Getting Legless”. The journey for me began in 2022, when 6 months after splitting with my wife of 21 years, and after a routine blood test I was diagnosed with stage 5 kidney disease. my kidney function was just 3% and I was 2 months away from dying from it.
I was just getting used to my new life, when disaster struck again, and I was told that because my kidney disease had been undiagnosed for so long, I had developed arterial disease in both legs which resulted in the amputation of both of them below the knee.
I now have prosthetics and with a lot of physio therapy I am able to walk again, albeit in a slightly drunken fashion!.
My hope is that this memoir is of help to anyone facing adversity like I did and wanting to overcome the challenges that life sometimes throws our way.

Just finished reading Jared’s book. What a wonderful, inspirational man he is to have gone through so much yet to tell his story with so much resilience, humour and lack of self pity. It really should go into every hospital kidney/diabetic unit as an encouragement to others on similar journeys so they will know that there can be light at the end of the tunnel. He is blessed to have such a wonderfully supportive family. I thoroughly recommend this book – it will leave a lasting impression.

What an inspirational and humble man Jared is. His resilience, positivity and humour is to be admired during challenges and adversity. I hope this book can help others on life changing journeys and the families that support them. This is a dark subject but with Jared’s outlook on life and humour it makes this book an easy and enjoyable read.
